Check out our most frequently asked questions - Everything you need to know before your appointment.

We offer cosmetic tattoo for brow, lash line/upper eyeliner, and lip, as well as non-laser removal. All are performed with a machine.

What services do you offer?

Your initial appointment can take up to 2.5 hours. In this time, we will discuss your concerns and preferences, we will pre-draw the area so that you have an idea of shape and colour density, and then we will tattoo! We want to ensure that our clients are as comfortable as possible with the process and we take our time to ensure so.

How long will my appointment take?

Any time of year is a good time for cosmetic tattoo!

Some things to keep in mind when booking are to avoid sun exposure in the 2 weeks leading up to your appointment:
Avoidance of alcohol and excessive caffeine (more than 1 cup per day) in the 3 days prior.
Following your appointment, you may expect some swelling and warmth for up to 24 hours, and the area will ‘darken’.
Depending on the area, your cosmetic tattoo may take between 5-14 days to heal. In this time, the area will become flakey and small scabs will fall off. It is important not to pick the area as this will result in uneven healing.
You will not be able to get the area wet or sun exposed during this time (and should be considerate of avoiding UV long term to prevent premature fading of your cosmetic tattoo – as well as premature ageing!).

You are best to organise your cosmetic tattoo at a time that you do not have any special events/holidays booked for at least 3 weeks following.

What’s the best time of year for me to book my cosmetic tattoo appointment?

Microblading is a technique of brow tattoo whereby a handheld tool is used to manually create what are essentially cuts in the skin and filled with dye to resemble hairstrokes. This technique has risks as it is difficult for the technician to gauge where they are positioned in the skin, which can lead to tattoo that either does not hold, or is too deep and therefore appears thick and blue. It also requires a technician to learn a ‘template’ of hairstrokes essentially, meaning it can be a little ‘one-size-fits-all’, which may not target every client’s specific concerns as best as possible.

Given this, it is not always reliable and also requires a lot of maintenance which can result in excessive scar tissue long term. The technique we use uses machine work to create light ‘pixels’ in the skin, which once healed, blur and soften to create a natural tint-like effect.

Why don’t you perform the microblading/hairstrokes technique for brow tattoo?

To have cosmetic tattoo you must firstly be over 18 years of age. You cannot have cosmetic tattoo if any of the following apply to you:

Are currently pregnant, trying to conceive, and in some cases if you are breastfeeding (speak to your OBGYN or specialist practitioner).
Have impaired skin in the area such as wounds or sunburn
Have had facial surgery within the last 6-12 months
Certain autoimmune diseases

You may not be able to have cosmetic tattoo if the following apply to you, and should contact hello@figmenttattoo.com to discuss further prior to making an appointment:

Are currently prescribed blood thinning agents such as aspirin, fish oil
Are immunocompromised
Are currently taking or have recently taken oral isotretinoin (speak to your prescribing dermatologist)

Am I eligible to have cosmetic tattoo?

Please book a consultation to discuss suitability or removal.

Often it is not as simple as ‘working over’ another technicians work, and many things are considered on our end – skin integrity, previous technique used, shape previously created.

Some work may require removal prior to proceeding or additional touch up sessions. We want to ensure the highest standard of work and outcomes for our clients, and appreciate your understanding of the process required to achieve this.

I have had cosmetic tattoo elsewhere before, can I book in to have it corrected/touched-up with you?

You can book an appointment online via our booking system here! If you would like to be placed on the waitlist for a specific date/time, click the ‘Join Waitlist’ button at the bottom of our online booking calendar.

All appointments require a non-refundable deposit which is deducted on the day of the service. All appointments submit to a 14 day cancellation & rescheduling policy.

How do I book an appointment?

This is a great question for your injector, but generally speaking, on our end we would advise the following:
Any time before getting botox, but 2 weeks after having had botox
One week before dermal fillers, and 3-4 weeks after having dermal fillers (the latter if the same area is to be treated, ie, Lip Filler and Lip Tattoo).

Speak to your injector before booking your appointment.

How long before/after botox/filler do I need to wait to have cosmetic tattoo?
